Winter Shelter
Winter Shelter is a climate-responsive design that uses the natural behavior of water and air to create a more efficient and sustainable home. Its double-sloped roof channels rain and snowmelt toward the center, where water is collected and reused for irrigation and utility systems. The house is elevated above ground level to reduce snow accumulation and humidity in winter, and to allow heavy summer rains to flood the base zone, creating a natural reservoir. Beneath the floor, a bed of local river stones forms a thermal chimney, pulling in cool air during warmer months and circulating it into the interior to regulate temperature naturally.
